Spurs win the NBA draft lottery, first dibs on Victor Wembanyama

Following Tuesday night's lottery, San Antonio Spurs supporters are jubilant that their team will have the first pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Why it's important The Spurs, who had a 22-60 record in 2022–2023, would be in a great position to select the player at the top of every team's wish list if they were to win the No. 1 pick: Victor Wembanyama, also referred to as "Wemby."

The most anticipated prospect since LeBron James in 2003 is Wemby.

The French prodigy, who stands 7 feet 4 inches tall and has an 8-foot wingspan, was described by Yahoo Sports as "Rudy Gobert mixed with Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis."

The mystery: Wembanyama competed for ASVEL, a French team owned by former Spurs player Tony Parker, in the 2021–2022 season.

Wemby missed the NBA draft combine because he is currently playing for Metropolitans 92 in France.

What they're saying: Wemby told reporters he wants to win a ring as soon as possible seconds after the draft order was made public.
